What are moving average trend lines?

In your trends widgets, you may notice some dotted lines. These are moving average trend lines, which take the average values of your data points and show them in a single clean line.

Ever wondered what the overall trend of your data points are?

Have certain data points increased over time? Have they decreased? It can be hard to tell the general movement of your data points over different periods of time.

That's why we have moving average lines!

These lines are a visual tool to help you discern general up- and downticks in your data so you don't have to interpret confusing peaks and valleys on your own.

Using Moving Average Lines

You can toggle your trend widget views using the line icon in the top right of a graph. You have the choice between base line view, moving average line view, and both base and moving average line view.

You can tell which view you're in by hovering over the icon!

These moving average lines can be seen when you apply different filters as well!

(For more information on using and applying filters, please visit our filter help page.)
