Field Mapping & Validation
Getting Started
For each file in your upload, you'll be guided through a field mapping process to ensure your data is properly ingested and analyzed. If you're uploading interview files (VTT, TXT, etc.), no mapping is required. For CSV files, a pop-up will appear to walk you through the mapping process.
Selecting a Mapping Template
You'll first notice an option to select a mapping template based on where your file was originally exported from. AI-Generated mapping is selected by default, and your file is intelligently mapped using AI. Choosing a template, such as "Qualtrics," may help auto-map your data based on its format, in the case that AI-Generated mapping falls short.
AI-Generated Mapping can make mistakes. Be sure to validate the AI-Generated mappings for yourself to ensure they are correct before submitting your files for analysis.
Setting "Answers Start From" Row
Next, choose the row where answers begin in your file. A default row is preselected based on each template, but you can adjust it as needed. This setting ensures your data is processed correctly and defines where the analysis starts.
Are you encountering an "Error parsing the date format" when submitting your mapping? Check that your "Answers Start From" row is correctly set to remove any metadata from your mapped columns. Metadata left in the columns can interfere with date recognition, causing parsing errors.
Example:
See below, the "Answers Start From" row is set to Row 1. The date format is trying to parse the metadata I Rows 1 and 2 for each "Date" column as dates. This is the cause of the error.
If metadata is present in the first two rows, changing the "Answers Start From" row to Row 3 skips the metadata, ensuring that only valid data is processed and allowing the dates to be parsed correctly.
Defining the Date Format
You will also be required to define a date format to ensure accurate parsing. Choose a format that matches how dates are displayed in your file. For example, if your dates look like 12/31/2025, select MM/DD/YYYY. You may choose a format from the dropdown or enter a custom one.
Field Mapping & Including/Excluding Columns
To map a column, select a type from the dropdown. Once mapped, the column is automatically included in the upload.
Including/Excluding Columns:
Leave columns unmapped and they'll be excluded from the upload by default
Exclude mapped columns by unchecking them
Re-include previously excluded columns by re-checking them
At least one column must be mapped in order to submit a file's mapping and proceed with upload. If you're uploading multiple files, you'll repeat this process for each file.
Have a Beehive Expert Map Your Files
If you need assistance with mapping your files, you can request expert support by clicking "Have a Beehive Expert Map Your Files." This submits your request along with your files, eliminating the need for manual mapping and data validation.
โ ๏ธ Note: Choosing expert mapping may delay the analysis of your data, but our team begins processing your files as soon as possible.
Completing the Upload
Once all files are mapped, click Next to submit the files for upload. A confirmation message will appear, letting you know the upload was successful.
After Uploading
Once you have dropped your desired data file into the platform, our system will need time to process and import the data. This step will generally take less than 24 hours, and you can track the progress of your analysis by viewing the status in your dashboard.
